The Wildflower Workshop

Hey! Thanks for checking out our page!

We are Opal & Oak Occasions, Calgary based event planners and we love to collaborate! Not only do we run our own event planning/ day of coordination company out of Calgary, but we also run an educational, portfolio building workshop called The Wildflower Workshop Co. with Shania Leigh Imagery (all photos featured were captured by her)!

So it’s snowing here in Calgary, therefore there’s no better time to reminisce about this beautiful summer day where we hosted a gorgeous photography workshop in Spruce Grove, Alberta right near Edmonton. This gorgeous editorial shoot came together with the help of many incredible vendors all of which are talented in their own special way. For The Wildflower Workshop Co. to even be possible, we teamed up with Shania to bring our ideas to life, she is the mastermind behind the camera and education portion of the workshop. We are Calgary wedding planners, but definitely love to travel and network across our fabulous province. We do all the set styling for the workshop and create the portfolio building opportunities for the attendees!

This shoot came about from many brainstorming sessions with the three of our heads put together. We knew right away we were going to host the workshop at The Red Tin Barn (thanks Elaine!) because the property is stunning, vast and has so many landscape options to work with. The instant you turn into the property, you’re greeted by a winding road framed by gorgeous, tall, lush trees that line the roadway. This is where the romance inspo. for the shoot came to life since it’s basically a scene straight out of a movie. We wanted to play off the romantic mood and create a set that is straight out of a fairytale. This is where the soft blushes and pink tones came from. We incorporated a touch of gold and crystal to the tablescape to help elevate the look of the editorial. Once we had the base colours & style, we knew that we wanted to add some boho vibes into the shoot to give it a twist from the typical rustic barn palette. Then came the mood board and the title of the workshop “Romantic Ethereal Boho”.

We were so lucky to have so many vendors included that helped bring this shoot to life, from the venue to the modes and everything in between, we couldn’t have done it without you! If you’re interested in the mood and vibe that this workshop gives, you should definitely check out these amazing vendors!

Like I said above, Elaine with The Red Tin Barn is an absolute dream to work with and we couldn’t have done this workshop without her. This venue is the perfect ceremony location. It truly is an amazing property with so many opportunities to bring your vision to life.

Then comes Birch N Bloom and my oh my their rental inventory is to DIE for. They provided the gorgeous copper arch with macramé, pink velvet chair, peacock chairs and pampas grass that truly added that boho vibe we were going for.

Then Danielle from The Bottled Bronco rolled in with her Prohibition Pickup, which let me tell you is the neatest way to add a unique element to your wedding day, because it is a keg on a truck. She is awesome to work with and can customize the drinks exactly how you envision for your wedding day.

Now let me talk about the florals because oh my goodness were they gorgeous. They were provided by Stemistry Floral Design and she has a knack for creating magic with blooms. She was truly a gem to work with and was a huge part in elevating this portfolio builder.

Next up, the dresses. The wedding gown was provided by Enchanted Ever After, and our stunning summer dress by Bee & Key Boutique. They fit the models perfectly and couldn’t have been easier to collaborate with.

The tablescape rentals were provided by Modern Rentals and they are definitely who you want to check out if you’re looking for variety and gorgeous pieces to incorporate into your wedding. They have everything from chargers, to glassware, to lounge seating areas and so much more. They are based out of Calgary but their style and pieces are truly one of a kind.

Finally, the dessert table. Can’t forget that because all of the sweets were truly decadent, gorgeous and are 100% vegan which is so neat! They were made by Sweetpea CafĂ© in Edmonton. Highly recommend checking them out!

We couldn’t have brought our vision or this workshop to life without the models, participants and of course our amazing co-host Shania. If this workshop sounds like something you want to attend, you’re in luck. We are absolutely hosting another one, this time in Calgary on November 29th, 2020. It is being hosted at The Pioneer on Stephen Avenue and the theme is The Magic of Christmas, sounds perfect right? We think so too! We hope to see you there!
